March Volunteer of the Month
Allyssa Tatro
Allyssa Tatro (18) of parents Lawrence and Annette Brewington is the March Volunteer of the Month for the Boys & Girls Club of Alpena-Youth Volunteer Corps.
Allyssa became a Youth Volunteer Corps member during the 2007-2008 school year and has been spreading her service-minded attitude and great persona throughout the Youth Volunteer Corps program and the Alpena community. Allyssa decided to join Youth Volunteer Corps because she wanted to be more active in the community. She also joined because she really enjoys volunteering and she believes that it will help her with career experience as she grows up by helping agencies throughout the community. Allyssa is definitely a shining star of this program and is very responsible member of the YVC team. Allyssa has shown time and again that she has the ability to make important decisions that reflect her strong and endearing personality.
Allyssa says that the people in the Youth Volunteer Corps are great and she enjoys being part of a team that makes a positive impact on the community. One of Allyssa’a favorite service projects is NEMCSA food-packing. She enjoys this project because you stay active while you volunteer and you really see the impact that we have on needy and hungry families. Another one of Allyssa’s favorite projects is the Soup Kitchen. She really enjoys seeing the people smile as you hand them a warm plate of food. She also enjoys the TenderCare projects and making an older person smile. She believes that the elderly have done so much for us in the past and the least we can do is something positive for them. This positive and self-less attitude is a huge reason that Allyssa is such a renowned member of the YVC.
Allyssa says the best part of being in the Youth Volunteer Corps is the fact that she is making a difference, even if in a small way. She recognizes that she is part of something bigger than herself. Allyssa says that the YVC group is the best group of people you’ll meet. She really enjoys the program and the mentoring that she receives from the YVC leaders. Allyssa is a great asset to the Youth Volunteer Corps and a model member for new recruits.
Allyssa would tell potential new members before they joined that they wouldn’t regret joining. It’s a thrilling experience and it’ll help you become a better and more aware person.
Actively and eagerly participating in YVC projects, maintaining a positive attitude, and selflessly providing service to the community are all part of the criteria for being named Volunteer of the Month. The YVC staff feels Allyssa excels in all of these areas.
