Devin C. (17) of parents John and
Chantal is the November Volunteer of the Month for the Boys & Girls Club of
Alpena-Youth Volunteer Corps.
Devin became a Youth Volunteer Corps
member at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year program and has been a standout
in the Youth Volunteer Corps program ever since. He has currently performed almost 350 hours
of dedicated service to the YVC of Alpena program. Devin brings a great
attitude and a team oriented philosophy to the YVC and always does whatever it
takes to complete a project. He is an
integral piece of the YVC program and someone that the community, school, YVC
and BGCA can count on.
Devin decided to join the YVC because he
wanted to help out the community and meet new people that shared his views on
giving back and making a positive difference in the community. He also joined because he wanted to develop
new leadership skills Devin is a well-rounded youth volunteer that has earned
the admiration and reverence from the YVC and the community through his devotion
to others and all the volunteer projects he endeavors.
One of Devinís favorite service
projects is being part of the pack crew that visits the NEMCSA warehouse and
filling food boxes that will be distributed to community members. He enjoys
this project because is shows how teens can come together, get organized and
help out. Devin also enjoys helping with the Recycling Green Team, visiting the
Huron Humane Society and undergoing conservation projects.
Devin says the best part of being in
the Youth Volunteer Corps is that you get to help the community and its
citizens through meaningful projects knowing that you are making a positive
difference. This is the attitude that
the YVC tries to instill in all the volunteers.
Devin would encourage all youth to join
the YVC. He would tell potential new
members that everyone should join the YVC to help become a leader in their
community and to make new friends who have the share similar values. There are
a lot of different projects offered and there is something for everyone, so why
not get involved. Nothing can compare to
the great feeling you get from helping others and having a great time while
doing it. The YVC is something fun to do and it gives you a new perspective on
Actively and eagerly participating in
YVC projects, maintaining a positive attitude, and selflessly providing service
to the community are all part of the criteria for being named Volunteer of the
Month. The YVC staff feels Devin excels
in all of these areas.
